Anand comments on Chess and the Asian Games
" Of course it is excellent that chess will be part of the
Asian games.Chess
in two of Asia's biggest countries, China and India is on the rise.
I am yet to receive information about the details of the exact nature
of the discipline. From what I understand it would be rapid chess.
Since that would be the most suitable format for a mega sports event
like the Asian games.
In all probability I will be looking forward to play for India It
is every sports man's dream is to win a medal in multi discipline
events like the Asian games or Olympics and I will be happy to achieve
that.
I was a special invited guest at the Sydney Olympics. I thoroughly
enjoyed
the atmosphere. You get to meet so many sporting greats in one arena. There
is a sense of sportsmanship , rivalry and festivity under one roof.
In tournaments , you are the only torch bearer for your country.
In an event
like the Olympiad , you represent a team . In the Asian games the
emotion is
even more intense as you cheer your countrymen in other sporting
disciplines
and vice versa.
I think in chess we have very committed youngsters .I will be captaining
the Olympiad team soon. at this stage we will be focussing on our
chess.. The idea will be to gain experience and enjoy our chess."
