17 year old racing driver, Armaan Ebrahim, has been widely picked
amongst the motor racing fraternity (including by Narain himself)
to be the next Indian to follow Narain Karthikeyan into Formula
1.
Armaan, had a very impressive stint as the Team India driver in
the A-1 Grand Prix Series (his best finish being 11th) and now that
Team India has withdrawn from A-1 Grand Prix due to lack of funds,
Armaan has moved on to the Formula Renault Series in England.
Armaan also drove earlier in the Formula BMW World Series and excelled
with 2 race wins (Sepang and Bahrain). Armaan finished overall third
in the World Series and picked up a US $ 50,000/- race program subsidy
award from BMW in the process.
Formula Renault is a highly competitive single seater series, with
the entire grid of 30 odd cars being separated by less than a second
in lap times. Drivers come from all parts of the worl and competition
is intense. Formula Renault is also considered a launch pad into
Formula 1. Kimi Raikonnen, in fact, took this route into Formula
1.
Armaan has clearly stated objectives in Formula Renault, to finish
in the top 3 this, his inaugural year and to win the Championship
within 3 years.
