March 31st 1999, Anand to play in Dos Hermanas
Viswanathan Anand (2784), World No.2 will start his next tournament on the 6th of April in Dos Hermanas, Sevilla in Spain. The tenth edition of the "Supertorneo Internacional Ciudad de Dos Hermanas" will take place between the 5th and 18th of April. The other participants are Anatoly Karpov (2710), Vladimir Kramnik(2751), Alexander Morozevich (2723), Michael Adams(2716), Peter Svidler(2713), Veselin Topalov(2700), Judit Polgar(2677), Viktor Korchnoi and Miguel Illescas(2585). The average rating of the tournament will be 2707 rating points. It will be a category nineteen tournament. Grand Master Viktor Korchnoi's rating will be taken as the average rating of the tournament( 2707 points) on a ELO honorary basis due to his seniority in the chess world.
The games will be played in the new Theatre that has been reconstructed
for the event. The games will begin at 16:00 hours-local Spanish time.
The opening ceremony and drawing of lots will take place on the 5th of
April at 21:00 hours. The rest days are 8th, 12th and the 15th of
April. The closing ceremony will be held on 18th of April at 13:00

The tournament is being organised by the Town Hall of Dos Hermanas and
the Sports Council. The Andalucian Sports Council is one of the
sponsors. Dos Hermanas which translates as "Two sisters" is one of the
sister towns of Sevilla. It is well known for its sports facilities. The
month of April is a high tourist month in this part of Spain due to
Easter and the "Feria de Abril" which is held in the second week of
April. Exhibitions and friendly club matches will form part of the
event.
Anand was a joint winner with Kramnik in the last edition played in
1997. In this tournament Anand will face Alexander Morozevich for the
first time. According to Anand, Alexander is a very creative and
tactical player. After the tournament Anand will have a one-month's
break before playing a Computer assisted match in Spain against Karpov.
Anand who is taking a few days rest after the recent tournament in
Monaco described the upcoming event as" It is a nice event which in
recent years have grown to rival the world renowned Linares tournament".
Anand will be accompanied by his second Elizbar Ubilava and his wife,
Aruna.
